Apache MyFaces book resources

Apache MyFaces 1.2 Web Application Development book cover In 2010, I published a book called Apache MyFaces 1.2 Web Application Development. By now, the book is super outdated, largely because the technology it describes is outdated and not widely used anymore. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy the book today. That said, I’m keeping book-related resources available on my website, should anyone need to access to those.

Examples source code

The book uses a running example throughout the book. The source code for it was hosted at Google code, but that service was discontinued by Google a couple of years ago. If you still want to use the code, I have a ZIP file that you can download.

Appendices

In the print version of the book, the appendices were left out to save paper. You can download the appendices as PDF here.

Reviews

As I said above, the book is outdated, and I don’t recommend buying it anymore. However, I’m still proud of what I achieved. And for that reason, I’d like to keep the reviews it got available here.

5 stars Great book for writing JSF webapps

If you’ve never written a JSF & Facelets application before, this book will gently guide you through all the necessary steps. And even if you have already written such applications […], this book will most likely teach you some neat tricks that you didn’t already know.

L. van der Pal at amazon.com

The writing is brilliant, because there is no useless information. The writing is compact but you are able to follow the story line and get a useful result finally.

Rainer Eschen in his ongoing chapter by chapter review

The domain of the examples is quite creative and there is a good chance that you will have fun while reading and/or implementing the examples.

Gerhard Petracek in his review of the book on the MyFaces wiki

4 out of 5 dukes The book Apache MyFaces 1.2 Web Application Development is more than a ‘getting started with’ book that I enjoyed reading. The author writes well and shows a very thorough knowledge of JSF in general and MyFaces in particular.
